SEO Myths

We are getting more and more people coming to us wanting SEO services. It's now not enough to simply have a website, the majority of people want it to rank highly for their particular chosen search terms. This blog post outlines some common myths which I commonly hear about . Please view my top four myths below!

Meta Tags will improve seo

This has to be the first choice! Meta keyword tags will have no impact on your Google ranking whatsoever. Google stopped using keyword tags for page relevance years ago because of people abusing them and putting irrelevant keywords in. Nowadays search engines will look at "off-page" factors such as links pointing to a webpage. However google does read certain meta tags such as description and content type for example.

You Must Submit your website to Google

This used to be true and maybe worth still doing it on smaller directory portals... but not google. With the indexing ability of Google your page should be crawled within a month or so.

The more links pointing to my site the better!

Reciprical links are a way of google gauging how important your website is. Thousands of links from a linkfarm is not the way to go about this. Trading links with irrelevant sites, en masse, is at best a waste of time and as Google becomes more aware of this...an invitation for a penalty!

Google Loves Fresh Content

There are plenty of websites that have not been updated for years that are the top of google... Simply fresh content in a webpage unless specified for your key search terms will have no impact on your ranking.

I will be providing tips on good seo practice in the coming weeks! Stay tuned!
