5 Football Clubs That Have Scored With Their Websites

SCROLL

Not only are football teams trying to outdo each other on the pitch but there’s now a greater need than ever for clubs to improve their digital game as well.

With the demand for content at the forefront of most fans brains, clubs have to adapt by ensuring their websites are functional for users looking for tickets, club news, fixtures and merchandise.
We’ve broken down our top 5 websites based on UX, design and content – let’s kick this off!

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Premier League new-boys Wolves have been impressing as of late, with the club looking strong for the future – new ownership, new team, new website. Wolves have opted for a slick design, emphasising the team colours with stylish overlays and landing banners coupled with their fantastic content marketing efforts which spans across the homepage showcasing trending stories and upcoming events.

Southampton

The Saints might have just escaped relegation, but their website could potentially top the digital table! Simple to navigate and easy on the eye, straight away the header banner draws the user to ‘On Sale Season Tickets’ and ‘Kit Launch’. What strikes us as impressive, is the team bios’ section which gives ‘key performance’ stats and ‘saints history’ detailing total matches, goals and even their debut date.

Stockport County

Naturally, we’re slightly biased with this one as Platform81 built Stockport County’s website last year – but I’m sure you will agree that it is a fantastic looking site. Informative, to the point and full of content perfect for any mad Hatter, their website offers everything of what you would expect from a great football website and more. As well as promoting the club shop, County is in touch with its history and the community of Stockport, which the website demonstrates brilliantly.

Sunderland

Sunderland may have performed poorly in recent years with two relegations in two seasons, but we’re going to give credit where credits due, in the form of their fantastic looking website. The homepage is video-led which makes it easy for supporters to digest content. Our favourite feature of this website has to be the swanky full screen navigation menu which is super easy to use and displays the River Tyne where the Stadium of light is located for that extra Mackem touch.

FC Nantes

Let’s head over across the channel to France, where Ligue 1 side FC Nantes probably have the most attractive website in the French division. It bears similar features of a social media interface which includes a Facebook-esque notification tab on the homepage to keep fans up to date with all the latest Nantes news. The site also boasts a ‘social wall’ similar to the Wolves Promotion Party which pulls in user-generated content across the club’s social media channels, this type of layout is a dream for a Social Media Coordinator – so it gets a thumbs up from us!
