Effective calls to action…
The first question we ask any new website client tends to be; “Why does your business want a website?”
Every website needs to have an effective ‘call to action’. A visitor needs to know what to do next…Call, email, like, follow, purchase, download, request a callback – these are all examples of ‘actions’ that a good, customer focused website should be designed to deliver.
Here are our top tips to creating effective calls to action for your site;-
Short, Sweet and Simple – Most people don’t have the time or the inclination to read pages and pages of content. In as few words as possible, you need to tell a potential customer what you want them to do next. The action needs to be simple to complete and of clear benefit to the customer.
Location, Location, Location – The homepage is the most important page on any website, making it a good place to locate a prominent call to action. It’s also important to keep these messages ‘above the fold’. A visitor might not want to scroll down the page so a call to action at the top of the page is vital.
It’s The Way You Say It! – It’s important to create a sense of urgency, so using words such as NOW, TODAY, LIMITED TIME ONLY, FREE is an effective way to help convert visitors into customers.
Here are some good examples;
“CALL NOW FOR A FREE QUOTATION”
“BUY NOW AND GET 10% OFF FIRST ORDER”
“DOWNLOAD OUR BROCHURE TODAY”
“START YOUR FREE TRIAL NOW”
“DOWNLOAD OUR FREE APP”
It’s important to set goal objectives as part of any website planning process. If you want customers to enquire, buy, or download an article it is imperative that the message is bold, in your face and simple to action…potential customers won’t hang around for long!
